Work on twelve new houses for rent in Alford is now complete. The scheme consists of 4 houses and 8 flats which was built in a partnership between Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership (AHP) and Kirkwood Homes began on site just a couple of months ago and has been complete on target.
The development is being funded with over £860,000 from Communities Scotland now knows as "Scottish Government"
Mike Scott, Chair of AHP said:
"We are delighted with the excellent progress made on this project and have welcomed tenants to their new homes recently. The twelve properties, which are a mix of houses and flats, are the first new affordable homes for rent in Alford for many years and AHP is pleased to be able to help meet some of the pent up demand in the area."
Robert Green, Technical Director of Kirkwood Homes said:
"The high quality houses being built in partnership with AHP will benefit the community in Alford for years to come and will help address the demand from this sector of the market."
Colin Hawkins, Chief Executive of AHP commented that:
"The need for affordable housing is reaching a critical point throughout the north east including the rural towns and villages in Aberdeenshire. The new houses in Alford will be highly energy efficient which in these days of increasing energy costs and concern for the environment is becoming increasingly important. The project has been brought about through the continued excellent working partnership AHP has developed with Aberdeenshire Council with significant funding assistance from Communities Scotland."
Pauline Innes, Communities Scotland area director for Grampian, added:
"These homes will be a welcome addition to housing in Alford, where demand for affordable homes to rent is high."
"Our support to Aberdeenshire Housing Partnership outlines our commitment, and that of our partners, towards delivering high-quality affordable homes to people in the area."
AHP held a welcome meeting at a local hotel in Alford where new tenants got the chance to meet each other and also to meet their Housing Officer. The tenants were given their keys and most moved in on the 24th March.
