The National Housing Trust Initiative

The National Housing Trust Initiative (NHT) was set up by the Government as a new approach to delivering affordable housing by the Scottish Futures Trust in 2010. Developed by Stewart Milne Homes and supported by Aberdeen City Council, this development is part of the initiative to provide new affordable housing at mid market rent level.

The properties will be let and managed by AHPD Ltd.

The criteria for applicants to be eligible for applying to lease one of these properties includes a maximum household income of £30,000 and all applicants must either be a Council tenant or tenant of a Registered Social Landlord in Aberdeen City and/or hold a position on the general waiting list of Aberdeen City Council or a Registered Social Landlord in Aberdeen City.

The NHT Initiative provides a potential opportunity to buy the property after a minimum 5 year period, depending on the housing market position at that time. In the event that the properties are released to the open market, it is intended that the sitting tenant will be offered first refusal.

Successful applicants will sign up to a Short Assured Tenancy for an initial minimum period of 6 months, continuing on a monthly basis thereafter.
