Good Practice Commendation

The way that AHP deals with rent arrears was singled out as an example of good practice in a recent report from the Scottish Government.
The Communities Scotland Annual Statistical Report, published in February, highlighted how AHP has significantly reduced its rent arrears in recent years. Arrears decreased in value by 25% between 2004/5 and 2006/7 and fell from 10% to 6% as a proportion of gross rental income.
The success was attributed to improvements to AHP's arrears management systems. These included: providing clear advice and information to tenants; early intervention and sustained contact with tenants in arrears; more personal contact with these tenants, such as phone and home visits; and offering proportionate and realistic repayment arrangements.
